This is the version we make for people who want the verse on their wall without it dominating the room. At 5.5 by 8 inches it sits comfortably beside a doorway, above a light switch, or on a shelf in a prayer space. The larger 7.5 by 10 works well as a small feature on its own, or grouped with photographs.

The Gurmukhi is laser engraved directly into solid wood — burned into the surface, not printed on top of it. Each piece is made by hand in our workshop in Brampton, Ontario.

Why the Lettering Will Not Fade

Printed wall art fades because the image is a layer of ink sitting on a surface, and ink breaks down under light. There is no ink here. The letters are cut into the grain, so the text is part of the wood rather than something applied to it. Short of physically sanding the panel down, the verse stays exactly as legible in twenty years as it is on the day it arrives.

A clear gloss finish seals the whole face. It brings out the grain, gives the engraved letters a bit of contrast against the surrounding wood, and lets you wipe dust off with a dry cloth without catching on anything.

One honest note: the wood itself will mellow slightly in tone if it hangs in direct afternoon sun, the way all wood does. The engraving is unaffected. If you would rather it stayed exactly as delivered, a wall that does not take direct sunlight is the safer spot.

Solid Wood at This Size — and Why That Matters

At 5.5 by 8 and 7.5 by 10 inches, solid wood is the right material. The panel is small enough to stay flat and stable through the humidity swing of a Canadian winter, so you get real grain, real weight, and a piece that can be refinished decades from now if it ever needs it.

Larger panels are a different problem. Wood moves across the grain as humidity changes, and a wide board has nowhere to absorb that movement, which is why our larger 3D Mool Mantar is built on cross-laminated plywood instead. Different scale, different correct answer. We would rather explain that than pretend one material suits everything.

Two Sizes, Two Finishes

• 7.5 × 10 inch — reads clearly from across a room, works on its own or in a group

Choose Natural Wood for a warm, light grain that suits most rooms, or Dark Chestnut for a deeper tone with stronger contrast in the engraving. Dark Chestnut tends to be the one people pick when the piece is going on a pale wall.

How It Hangs

A keyhole slot is cut into the back of every piece before it ships. One screw or nail in the wall, hook it on, and it sits flush against the wall with no gap and nothing visible from the side. Nothing to assemble, no bracket to buy.

Common Questions

How is this different from your 3D Mool Mantar?

Two real differences. On this piece the verse is engraved into a flat solid wood panel. On the 3D version, every letter is cut out separately and raised off a round backing board, so it casts a shadow and reads with depth. The 3D piece is also much larger, starting at 15 inches across and going to 22.

Put simply: this one is for a modest wall or a gift. That one is for a feature wall.

Will the engraving wear off?

No. The letters are cut into the wood rather than printed onto it, and a clear gloss finish seals the surface. There is no ink to fade or peel.

How do I clean it?

A dry or barely damp cloth. Skip furniture polish and anything with solvents in it — the gloss finish does not need them and they can dull it over time.
